The successful applicant will perform design, modeling, analysis, simulation, and experimental validation work, under the guidance of senior project team members, for the development of integrated vehicle health monitoring technologies. This engineer will be responsible for performing hardware setup, experimental testing, data collection, signal processing, data visualization, and documentation tasks as required, and will interact with engineers from collaborating organizations. The engineer will be expected to use analytical and experimental skills to suggest solutions and to appropriately perform tasks according to provided direction and standard industrial practices.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and/or Materials Engineering (Required).
• Minimum of one year of demonstrable hands-on experience in mechanical testing of materials and structures, including installation and use of sensors, data acquisition hardware and software, and signal conditioning and processing methods. This experience may have been gained as part of the candidate’s undergraduate studies (Required).

The preferred candidate will have clearly demonstrable and applicable training and/or experience in many or all of the following: modeling of mechanical systems, finite element analysis (ABAQUS or equivalent), health monitoring of structures, computer programming, data analysis and visualization, MATLAB, fabrication with metallic and composite materials, data acquisition hardware and software, signal processing methods, statistical methods, and experimental testing of materials and structures. Good knowledge of computer driven systems and common office software is expected. A self motivated, well organized, and dependable person who is a quick learner and has good technical writing skills and verbal communication skills is highly desirable.
